On Wednesday, May 19th during #StartupChats, we talked about Leveraging Technology for Storytelling For You with Scotiabank.
We were joined by passionate storytelling experts;

Maddie Stiles, Founder and Producer at Podcast With Maddie
So, why do we need storytelling in business?
A1: To be loved as a brand means that you have made an emotional connection with your customers. To get that emotional connection – and build long-term loyalty – you need to be able to tell your brand story in a compelling way. #StartupChats

Business needs storytelling because stories are the best way to communicate and share ideas. When you use story, your audience is engaged on a deeper level and invited to participate more fully. Stories tap into emotion. People remember things that matter to them. #StartupChats

A1: Storytelling creates a real connection with your customers! It shows what your business is all about in a meaningful way and helps gain loyal customers. #startupchats

We talked about technology affects the way we tell stories today;
We can switch between mediums more easily, we can extract audio from video, or include video to go with audio. We can screen shot video frames and make social posts, we can tell the same story in various ways. Medium is the message mentality #StartupChats

A6: Really, the possibilities are endless, which is so exciting as a marketer. Not only can you tell your own unique story to a broader audience, but you can do it in really creative ways that fit with your brand personality. #startupchats

Depending on the tech/channel and what it allows for contribution wise, stories can be interactive in real time (think @Clubhouse, @Twitter, @instagram or @Facebook Live) or 1-sided with little chance of jumping in with your thoughts until later (traditional media). #StartupChats

We also discussed using the right technology to tell our stories;
Technology helps us tell stories in many ways, including the provision of vehicles to produce stories we want to tell and venues to distribute/amplify those stories. Tech also impacts the creative process. The tools you use may affect the expression of your ideas. #StartupChats

For me as an audio producer, I work in Adobe audition day to day. There are many different offerings of tech that do similar things, I think sometimes it comes down to preference. #StartupChats

A3: Entrepreneurs often overcomplicate things when it comes to technology. Whether choosing the right platform to communicate, a tool to make life easier, or anything in between, technology should not make life harder. And it should not instill fear. #StartupChats 2/2
