October 19, 2017 – Startup Canada, the national rallying community and voice for Canada’s entrepreneurs, today recognized the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, and the Honourable Navdeep Bains, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, for their leadership and impact in advancing an environment and culture for entrepreneurial success in Canada.
Over the past two years, both Minister Chagger and Minister Bains have championed Canada’s entrepreneurs by fostering and shaping various initiatives aimed at supporting Canadian entrepreneurs to start and grow thriving companies. Both Ministers have played leading roles on the Innovation and Skills Plan, the new SME Chapter within NAFTA, and the creation of Innovation Canada.
These initiatives are part of the Ministers’ ongoing work to support Canadians in all areas of the economy and in all parts of the country to improve conditions for investment, enhance Canada’s innovation performance and job creation, increase Canada’s share of global trade and build a fair, efficient and competitive marketplace.
“To build an entrepreneurial and innovative nation, entrepreneurs, industry and government must come together and work together in unprecedented ways,” said Victoria Lennox, Co-Founder and CEO of Startup Canada. “It is important for our government leaders to both listen and lead; lead by elevating the ambitions of citizens and unleashing entrepreneurship as a powerful equalizer to empower everyone.”
Minister Chagger was recognized for her exemplary leadership today at Startup Canada Day on the Hill, the largest national entrepreneurship event convening leading entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, industry executives, and government representatives annually to raise the bar for Canada as a globally competitive innovation nation. Minister Bains was recognized today at the Startup Canada Awards, the hallmark event recognizing those driving impact and demonstrating excellence in Canada’s entrepreneurship and innovation community.
