Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey. It is crucial to surround yourself with like-minded founders and mentors who can provide you with the right resources and advice to set you up for success. This feeling of isolation is especially true for women-identifying entrepreneurs, who face additional barriers on their entrepreneurial journey, such as receiving less funding than their male-identifying counterparts.
In partnership with BDC, we spoke to women-identifying entrepreneurs from across Canada to speak about their unique journeys and the importance of community support in entrepreneurship.
Meet Erin Madden, founder of Happy Kids Nutrition Academy
What is your elevator pitch to the world? How does it improve the lives of customers?
Happy Kids Nutrition Academy provides in-home training classes in nutritional sciences to children around the world so they can develop healthier eating habits into adulthood.
What is the “why” behind what you do?
Having worked in the nutrition and fitness industry for over 10 years, I have a unique combination of skills I’ve gained by incorporating solid, evidence-based nutrition, and an understanding of food and ingredients. I am continually inspired by food and its ability to promote overall wellness.
How has being a part of a startup support organization helped you grow?
They helped me grow by giving me the knowledge, resources and confidence in running my own business. I especially like the Business Owner’s Toolbox, a one-stop shop to learn about all aspects of business.
